The person in this and the previous pictures appears to be undergoing a violent apotheosis, some kind of cathartic experience ... will he emerge from it a better person? Things will never be the same for him again.

After the storm, the light of revelation ... there's something beatific about this picture.

There is also something very suggestive about the set of pictures. The mixture of pleasure and pain.

I'm not sure if it is cathartic...probably something quite regularly experienced. So, regular expulsion I'd call it.

Hehas that web-cam stare. Many a self-portrait has been perceived as conveying this or that intensity, because the simple act of looking and looking and looking - as the painter paints - is itself intense. Perhaps the painter has painted this process, and no more? One nods at Freud, one winks at Freud, and one covers the object with a readable literary veneer; making each image a cartoon, to which one can add captions. One likes stories, of course; one likes narrative, and to have something explained away. The camera - being quick at capturing what it's pointed at - offers other abstractions, and offers one other stories. The choosing, by the chooser, is, though, a kind of narrative. The aim is something between things, betweenery abounds. One side thesis, the other antithesis; betweenery as thesis anew.
